WITH transfer deadline day looming, Arsenal fans are bracing themselves for what promises to be a chaotic climax to the summer window.

All eyes will, of course, be on the hourly-changing situation surrounding Julian Alvarez. Atletico Madrid have told the Argentina striker that he is not getting his dream move to Barcelona.

The talk is that Atletico would be prepared to sell Alvarez for £128m – rumours that escalated yesterday (Wednesday) when the player reportedly missed training.

The question now is will Arsenal go in with a last-gasp offer, and do they really want to sign a player who clearly has his heart set on Barca?

The Gunners’ main focus ahead of Tuesday’s 11pm deadline will be on the players exiting the Emirates as manager Mikel Arteta continues to reshape his squad.

The Premier League champions are expected to be on the brink of smashing the record transfer fee that they’ve received for a player – although their profit-making skills when it comes to selling talent has never been particularly impressive. Negotiations between the Gunners and Saudi club Al Hilal over a deal for Gabriel Martinelli are said to be all but complete. Arsenal will reportedly bank over £50m for the winger, eclipsing the £35m they received for Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain when he moved to Liverpool in 2017.

The north Londoners are also trying to offload Gabriel Jesus, while Fabio Vieira and Reiss Nelson are also expected to find new clubs.
