Allies in the struggle to keep the NHS public
Thursday, 15th April 2021
• ONE Sunday in February I received a telephone call from Eric soon after 8am, (Eric Gordon: Tributes to Camden’s great chronicler as founder and editor of CNJ dies at 89, April 8).
He apologised for calling early, but he’d got wind of Centene’s take-over of GP surgeries in Camden and was determined to cover it.
That was the first of several calls over the following weeks. Then a couple of weeks back his wife Samantha called from the hospital, saying Eric wanted to add me to the WhatsApp group that was receiving bulletins on how he was feeling.
Next thing, Samantha said, “oh, he’s taking the phone off me”. On he came, wanting to know the latest. “We must keep the story going, keep in touch with Tom Foot”, he struggled to say, repeatedly.
Tom hasn’t let you down Eric, and together you’ve been, and are, trusty allies in the struggle to keep the NHS public.
