After Chalcots many questions remain but they are not being answered

• AT the full council meeting following the chaos of the Chalcots evacuation, great stress was put on transparency and “no forgotten voices” by senior councillors.

There is little sign of any change in policy and practice. It took three weeks to get the council to publish the previous risk assessment report.

There are questions on social media about such matters as whether Rydon is still contracted to build a large number of flats in Gospel Oak. What was the time delay in completing this work?

Had the council suspended the sale of some 21 new flats in Vicars Road? When will the new regeneration manager for Gospel Oak be appointed – the post has been vacant for over four months? What are the terms of reference of the “independent Chalcots investigation”?

These and similar questions are refused answers. Worse, those who allegedly posed these questions are accused of rumour mongering and opposing the building of affordable housing.

Until councillors and officers are prepared to abandon secrecy and prove that they have done so we will be unable to have confidence in planning or any other activity of the council.
