• I AM pleased to inform Peter Rutherford (A welcome in the libraries, September 22) that newspapers – the real things – are back at Highgate Library, Chester Road.

The Times is a great favourite. You are welcome to devour it. We have chairs and tables. Large print and talking books are available.

Sorry, no hot drinks machine but we have a chess club every Thursday at 4.30pm, free and open to children and adults. If you are creative you can join our knitting group.

Our library is not exactly the Ritz but it is 100 per cent friendly. We are like a private club minus the huge joining fees.
