CNJ and Twitter: Take part in our online general election hustings and speak directly to the candidates
Thursday, 2nd April 2015

THERE are now just five weeks before the general election, and the New Journal is offering readers a unique opportunity to question the parliamentary candidates seeking your vote.
The perfect opportunity for undecided residents in the knife-edge Hampstead and Kilburn constituency – where Labour won by just 42 votes in 2010 – the social network Twitter is helping to organise online hustings, and has asked the New Journal to chair the debate.
It means readers will get the chance to question Labour’s Tulip Siddiq, Conservative candidate Simon Marcus, Liberal Democrat Maajid Nawaz, and Ukip’s Magnus Nielsen. The Greens have also been invited.
The candidates will be answering questions through the New Journal’s Twitter account on Tuesday afternoon (April 7) from 4pm – follow the debate on #hkdebate
We will try to get as many questions answered as possible, as the candidates tap away at instant answers on the issues that matter most to you. The answers will appear online and recorded on the New Journal’s website. The nature of Twitter’s character limits will ensure that the candidates will have to get straight to the point.
Joanna Geary, Twitter’s head of News and Government Partnerships said: "With voters and political parties increasingly harnessing the power of Twitter for political discourse and information sharing, 2015 has become the UK’s first true Twitter election."
