A POPULAR cub scout leader celebrated her retirement with homemade cake at the weekend.

Susan Sinclair, who lived in Lincoln’s Inn for nearly 40 years, led the 8th Holborn scout group for 25 years.

More than 50 of her grown-up scouts cheered her at the weekend party at the Knights Templar pub in Holborn, where cupcakes, a buffet and two large cakes, all made by scouts who learnt their skills at camp, were served.

Originally, she was encouraged to join the scouts by Labour councillor Julian Fulbrook.

Ms Sinclair said: “Once I saw the metamorphosis that takes place in scouts it wasn’t difficult to continue.

"Spending time outdoors, in the way they do when they scout, can bring about remarkable changes. For many scouts it becomes like a family. It’s a network they’ll have throughout their lives.”

Ms Sinclair plans to spend her retirement gardening and involving herself in the parish council in Hampshire, where she now lives.
