THE Town Hall may have just announced plans for a school in Holborn, but it is already facing a fresh campaign for a another new secondary: this time in West Hampstead. Parents have begun lobbying the council amid predictions that the north west of the borough will need six new classes of 11-year-olds by 2016. The NW6 School campaign want to present their bid for a free school to the Department for Education but are calling for more families who feel their aren't enough places to add their name to a petition.
Dr Clare Craig, one of the campaign's founders, said: "We would like to partner with a university and we would have an open admissions policy based on catcthment. It is difficult to find a site big enough for a secondary but the campaign team has identified land around the railway interchange which must be of use."
Campaigners are hoping the new school could be open as early as September 2015. The campaign said parents had been left disappointed by the "small catchment area" of the new UCL Academy School in Swiss Cottage, which opened in September.
