Your Shout – The Cold War was no joke!

IS Richard Osley seriously comparing the great sport of golf with the Cold War and the fall of the Berlin Wall (New Journal, June 20).
Seriously? In his immature Summer Diary – is he 14? – he writes “tear down this wall Mr Golfychov”. This is trying to parody Ronald Reagan’s famous speech about Berlin. If golf is so exclusive, why would it be walled off in the Soviet states?
It would be more likely to be walled off in the western world if it was walled off anywhere.
It would be a luxury of the United States of America. “Tear down this wall Mr Golfychov” does not make a bit of sense and is cheap because the Cold War was not a joke.
Richard Osley is of double standards. Before this he said Dave Lammy had compared the Arsenal and Tottenham football matches with black rights campaign and Gil Scott-Heron just because he said the revolution would be televised after the match when Spurs won.
So, Lammy is not allowed to compare sport with history and Osley is. I think you understand the point.
