“SOMEWHERE Only We Know…” That was the emotional song that flew around we happy band of Chelsea supporters late on Saturday evening after seeing off the scousers for another historically classy FA Cup victory at Wembley Bridge.
The best thing about this exact moment in the life of a Chelsea supporter is the perfect combination of wishes granted and even more glittering dreams still alive.
The chance that we’ll be there for our first Champions League title is more than enough to get us giddy.
Add in the possibility of being the first London team to win the biggest club competition in the world and it gets intoxicating.
Finally, how about the fact that victory over Bayern Munich denies either the Goons or the Spuds a place at the top table next year?
Could life be any sweeter?
I don’t think so.
So, who would I rather see heart-broken in the fourth spot, should we beat the Muncheners?
It’s so hard to choose; the nasty little thugs who tried to pick a fight on Wembley Way after the semi would ordinarily make the Spuds a shoe-in, but every team has its embarrassing few.
So in the end, the thought of Richard Osley blubbing into his mum’s pinny is too tempting: “It’s not fair mummy, they’ve got more money than us… sob. They’ve bought a chopper… sniffle…
“And now they’ve got an Atari… whimper. And when we play them, instead of watching us tippy-tappy all pretty with the ball, they just take it off us run up the pitch, score, win all the cups and now they won’t even let us play in the competition.
“Why is life so UNFAIR? boohoo!”
