Brecknock Road barriers

Barriers on Brecknock Road ‘to create more chaos and congestion’

• MORE barriers are going up in Camden without any consultation, this time on Brecknock Road.

It’s the boundary road between Camden and Islington and therefore even more ridiculous, because they are on only one side of the street.

One could start to consider that the current Covid-19 pandemic is being used to force through more and more drastic road restrictions that have been planned well ahead by Camden Council.

Now is the time for people to question this and for a much wider discussion and proper consultation between the council and all residents.

On Saturday morning, when I ask the gentlemen why they were putting up the barriers they answer with an embarrassed look, and “social distancing”.

I asked if they had been involved in the barriers on Kentish Town Road and they replied “no way, that’s an absolute disaster down there”.

I pushed further and asked why they thought that was the case? They said it was obviously “to create more chaos and congestion”.

If we start to consider therefore that the fanatical and inconsiderate stepping up of road narrowing is not a result of incompetence, then another way to go is to conclude that this cruel experiment is running along the lines of pre-made decisions that are ideologically driven with little consideration of the entire population of Camden.
