‘Classic examples of the failing memories of politicians are on show concerning the present round of strikes’

• YOUR correspondent Peter Cave (Why do we put up with these government ministers? January 12) asks “Does the government take us for fools?”

The answer is yes and is proven by election after election results. The memories of so many voters is probably as fallible as that of most politicians, to which can be added the chronic inability to give straight answers to straight questions by most politicians.

Classic examples of the failing memories of politicians are on show concerning the present round of strikes.

What is forgotten is that the longest “strike” involving the National Health Service is that of investment in it by the party that has been in power for nearly 13 years.

Nor were there many calls for “minimal service levels” when ambulances were standing outside for hours because they were unable to hand over their patients.

Surely another instance of failing political memories concerns the rail strikes and the position of Network Rail.

The fact Network Rail has workers involved in the strikes has slipped the minds of the current government. So what was that again about the UK government not being involved in the rail strikes?

But one thing that can be attributed to the current UK government is the Royal College of Nursing voting for strikes for the first time in its history.
