A FREE-SCORING squad of Year 6 footballers fired their way into the history books on Saturday when they became the first Camden District side to reach the final of the Lester Finch Trophy.
On paper the boys were underdogs as they travelled to east London to tackle a strong Barking and Dagenham side.
But led by captain Luc Achermann-Stanfield they rose to the challenge in spectacular style as they cruised to a resounding 4-0 victory.
Winger Aaron Keto gave Camden a half-time lead when he smashed the ball home from 25 yards just minutes after coming off the bench.
Quick-fire goals from Alfie Johnston and Abdi Hassan put the result beyond doubt before man-of-the-match Keto, who goes to St Aloysius Primary School in Somers Town, wrapped up the rout with his second of the game.
Coach Abul Koyar, who manages the team with Shaun Taylor, said he was confident that a repeat performance in the final against either Brent or Lewisham would end in another successful afternoon.
“The boys showed great hunger and desire, and all worked really hard to book their place in what is a historic final,” he said. “If they show the same attitude and commitment in the final they can definitely win it. The unity within the squad, which has only been together for four or five months, is unbelievable. They all get along off the pitch, and when you see the way they fight for each other on match days you’d be convinced that they had played together for years.
“I can honestly say they’re one of the best bunch of boys I’ve coached over the years.
“It was tough to pick just one star player on Saturday, but in the end Aaron just edged it.”
