Wrong turn for a ‘sustainable vision’ for transport

TfL have launched a survey about plans to chop the C2 bus

‘Camden Council is increasing residents’ parking costs at the same time as Transport for London is culling the C2 bus route’

• CAMDEN Council is proposing to increase residents’ parking costs by a staggering 70 per cent per year in order to deliver “a more sustainable vision for transport, healthier lifestyles and less polluted places”.

Common sense tells us that if you want to reduce residents’ car journeys you should make leaving the car at home cheaper, make parking away from home more expensive, and increase the provision of public transport.

This logical approach is being developed by the West Midlands Combined Authority which is trialling a scheme in Coventry to reward drivers for leaving their cars at home while investing in the provision of public transport.

Meanwhile Camden’s “sustainable vision” involves the exact opposite; it is increasing residents’ parking costs at the same time as Transport for London is culling the C2 bus route.
