ELISA Martin scored an extra-time winner as an under-strength Hampstead Women’s team beat Garston Ladies on Sunday to continue their march in the John Greenacre Memorial Trophy.
With several key players being rested because of niggling injuries, it took Hampstead just over an hour to break the deadlock when Martin’s through-ball found Becky Barnes, who smashed her shot past the keeper from 15 yards.
It’s the seventh consecutive game that the striker has scored, equalling the club record set by her strike partner Anjana Gadgil four years ago.
Garston looked to have squandered a great chance to force extra time late on when they missed a penalty.
But within a minute of the miss they were given another chance from the spot – which this time they duly accepted.
Hampstead found the winner after a tiring 114th minutes when Kerri Marshall, who had saved her team in the final minutes of normal time with a spectacular goal-line clearance, picked out Martin to score from close range.
