SUBSTITUTE Ellen White (above) came off the bench to score on Sunday as Arsenal Ladies started the defence of their Continental Cup with a flattering victory away at Liverpool.
Clinical finishing saw the Gunners end an even first 45 minutes with a 2-0 lead thanks to goals from the in-form Jennifer Beattie and Steph Houghton.
Liverpool squandered several good chances to get back in the game, and were punished midway through the second half when White added the finishing touches to a 3-0 win.
Arsenal boss Laura Harvey admitted that the final score did not reflect a tight game. “A 3-0 scoreline always looks quite comfortable,” she said. “I think in the first half we made things quite hard for ourselves at times and scored two goals off set pieces. We gave away quite a lot of set pieces but, in the end, it was quite comfortable.”
