ARSENAL Ladies booked their place in the quarter-finals of the Women’s Champions League last night (Wednesday) with a dramatic 4-3 win at FFC Turbine Potsdam.
Kelly Smith’s hat-trick and Ellen White’s late strike sealed a 6-4 aggregate win as the Gunners became the first English side to win in Germany.
Laura Harvey’s side went into the second-leg tie boasting a narrow advantage after goals from Katie Chapman and White sealed a 2-1 win at Meadow Park last Thursday.
It looked like it was going to be an easy night at the Karl-Liebknecht stadium as Smith struck twice to open up a 2-0 lead. But the hosts hit back to level the scores.
Smith completed her hat-trick to fire the Gunners back in front, but again Potsdam equalised. Substitute White finally made the game safe nine minutes from time with a clinical finish.
