PLAYERS from Hampstead Women FC took a break from their double-chasing domestic campaign on Saturday to hold their annual charity tournament.
Despite sub-zero temperatures, 25 teams consisting of over 300 men and women took part in the five-a-side AJ Cup.
Returning for a seventh year, the competition is the brainchild of Hampstead’s Anjana “AJ” Gadgil (pictured).
After six hours of non-stop action, and hundreds of hot-chocolates, The Char-Chars beat The All-Rights 2-1 in a closely contested final.
Meanwhile debutants Team Jose beat competition regulars Le Wis 2-0 in the Plate final.
But the real winners were The Association of International Cancer Research (AICR), who will receive £800 raised from the tournament.
Anjana said: “I’ve supported AICR since my mum died of breast cancer 13 years ago. Holding a football tournament is the best way to raise money as everyone gets a great day out in return for their donation.”
