IT was a transfer window like no other: one that shone a bright light on just how rapidly women’s football is changing – some might even say growing.
Unimaginable figures that would have been scoffed at just 12 months ago saw Arsenal table a world-record bid believed to be in the region of £500,000 for Manchester United striker Alessia Russo. And while the offer was rejected, it still feels like a watershed moment in the game.
Just days earlier Arsenal themselves were the ones saying no when Chelsea reportedly made a bid of £250,000 for Katie McCabe.
In this same window we saw the British record fee broken when Bethany England joined Tottenham from Chelsea in a reported £250,000 deal. As it stands the benchmark is still Keira Walsh, who became the most expensive female footballer on the planet in September when she swapped Man City for Barcelona for a fee of around £400,000.
