Why it can’t be easy to run a business in Kentish Town Road?
Thursday, 14th March 2019
• VERY sadly another business on Kentish Town Road has had to close. It most unlikely that any sort of useful outlet will open in its place.
It was the only shop of its kind on the street (or even nearby as far as I am aware) and will be much missed by this reader at least. It was not a bad business that deserved to fail.
A major contributor to its demise (and to the sorry state of Kentish Town Road as a whole) is the huge costs of running a shop in Camden on top of rent, staff, and stock.
Camden Council routinely express their sadness over the gap-toothed state of Kentish Town Road but they certainly don’t make it easy for building owners to attract the sorts of retail tenants who would be an asset to the community.
These just cannot build a viable business faced with these costs.
