Why do we vote for a Labour council if all they do is cut and cut and cut?

• CONGRATULATIONS to Camden, giving us all one reason less to use the major library at Swiss Cottage by closing the delightful Delice Café there, and offering the space for some other use, anything you like apparently.

Closing the library on Sundays, when many people are free to use it, was stupid enough, but this was a thriving café used by a wide variety of Camden residents, from young people studying in the library to older ones like me looking for somewhere peaceful to have a coffee.

I presume it even made some financial contribution, so its closure is utterly stupid, especially when they have nothing to put in its place.

As a lifelong Labour supporter, I question why we vote for a Labour council if all they do is cut and cut and cut, just as the Tories tell them to, and they do so with an incompetence beyond belief, as my long battle with Veolia over household rubbish collection suggests, and their handling of the fire-safety of tower blocks confirms.

I vote Labour to change things, not to do the Tories’ dirty work, and badly – but no doubt one of their councillors will tell you how wonderfully well they are managing difficult issues under pressure from the equally stupid Tory government. But it’s a lie.
