Why do councillors ignore what we tell them?

An architect’s drawing of the proposals for the Godwin and Crowndale estate in Somers Town
• YOUR article about councillors voting to build on Regent High School sports court without providing a replacement is yet further evidence of the increasing actions councillors to blatantly ignore the views and needs of residents, (Councillors vote to build housing on estate’s sports pitch, December 24).
The naming (and shaming?) in the article of those councillors on the planning committee who voted for the proposal appears to be the only way we can know of their actions.
One of those who voted for the proposals, a budding candidate for a lucrative cabinet post, represents Gospel Oak ward.
In that ward there is a non-building site owned by the council, which could provide space for well over 100 four-bedroom social rent homes, not just the 10 planned in Somers Town.
Yet this site has remained derelict for over five years with no sign of the 40 displaced social housing tenants being able to return.
Perhaps this councillor could explain the logic behind his vote which will strip the school of its much-needed sports facility. I note that the other Gospel Oak ward councillor at least abstained.
