‘Affirmative action is required in order to solve the problem of rough sleeping’

• I AM concerned for the people who are regularly seen wrapped up in blankets along Euston Road. I saw at least five such people as I passed through on the 18 and 91 bus on April 26.

In addition to that, I saw more evidence of rough sleeping outside St Pancras Church at 7.10am. I was approached by a man who was evidently homeless and wrapped up in a bed sheet and he asked me if I had any spare change?

I would like to know what Camden Council is doing to address rough sleeping?

I know that councils across the capital are struggling to cope as Covid-19 continues to take its toll across the country.

However, rough sleepers are people (as if anyone wasn’t aware) and they are arguably more vulnerable to Covid-19 than those who have homes.

I suggest affirmative action is required in order to solve the problem of rough sleeping.

It’s no good having representatives of Shelter standing around asking for donations on Euston Road, while homeless people use the pavements as makeshift beds each day and night.

When will local and central government come together to address rough sleeping in the capital permanently?
