When will people wake up about this prime minister?

Voting for Boris Johnson because ‘he makes me laugh’

• HERE’S my guilty confession: I “lent” Boris Johnson my vote – because I couldn’t vote for Jeremy Corbyn and I wanted “to get Brexit done”.

I did so knowingly, but holding my nose.

During the London mayoral election back in spring 2012, while canvassing council estates, I was depressed by how many traditional Labour voters told me they were voting for Johnson because “he makes me laugh”.

That didn’t seem to me to be then (or now) a sound basis for choosing a leader.

I thought Johnson was a mediocre mayor. Now I’m ashamed to have such an immoral person representing our country to the world.

The prime minister rides a wave of popularity because he is credited with the Covid-19 vaccines success and – still – because he’s perceived as an amusing rogue.

These are not sound reasons. When will the electorate “smell the coffee” and wise up to this shameful apology for a prime minister?

I hope he will be superseded by someone who has integrity and appoints a capable team to replace this current third-rate cabinet. I’ll continue to dream….
