When the road seems safer than the footpath

Thursday, 20th October 2022

• IT’S very reassuring to know that the London Borough of Camden takes the safety of pedestrians on their footpaths so seriously as winter approaches.

No doubt the recently placed sand bins on my local footpath will prove a great asset in providing safe walking for residents, considering that in the six years I’ve lived here not once during wintry, icy, conditions have the contents of these bins ever been used by their contractors to put on the footpaths to make them accessible.

I spent most of time during snow and ice walking on the main road as it was gritted and safer. In fact it’s quite the opposite, they are often used as rubbish bins for all types of litter. Perhaps Camden Council should reconsider this pointless and time-wasting exercise.
