When the Nazis began wiping out Jews

Thursday, 27th April 2017

• I WAS interested in reading Merilyn Moos’s letter (Against all racism, April 20).

Moos says the Nazis only adopted a policy of genocide officially at the Wannsee Conference in 1942. However the wiping out of the Jews in eastern Europe had started at the end of 1939 and when Germany invaded Russia in 1941 it took Ersatz commando groups to wipe out the Jews, including the specially formed Police Battalion 101 solely for this purpose.

“The transfer agreement” saved the lives of 60 000 Jews who would otherwise have died in the Holocaust. Needs must.

As for Israel’s oppression of the Palestinian people in Gaza they are oppressed by Hamas not Israel.
