When concerns are raised, Camden should listen
Thursday, 23rd July 2020
• WHILE the sounds of angry honking and ambulances struggling to get by on Parkway are now thankfully gone, residents shouldn’t have to take things into their own hands.
For weeks, locals close to the Camden Town tube and the nearby Primrose Hill residential streets, suffered through clogged roads, increased pollution and traffic jams.
Residents took over 40 minutes to drive out of the area. Buses took double the walking time to cross Parkway from end to end.
Questions were raised and complaints were made to the council. It was all received with limited response and even less action.
It took a determined group (I’m sure not in lack of volunteers) to push the barriers last week for these to be officially removed over the weekend. The change in the scheme is most welcome and the quiet weekend was appreciated.
But it shouldn’t have been such a struggle to make this change. A better understanding of local issues is needed and action should be taken when valid concerns are raised. I hope proper consultation will not be so elusive to Camden in the future.
