Whatever happened to the Tory Major?

• IT was disappointing not to see one name among those objecting to a name change for the Holborn parliamentary constituency, (Pleas to save St Pancras from being wiped off the political map, August 5).
In 1974’s two general elections, the Conservative candidate for the St Pancras North seat was a 31-year-old nervous novice called John Major. On both occasions he was soundly beaten by the Labour incumbent Jock Stallard.
Much-loved Jock later became Lord Stallard and then sadly died in 2008. I often wonder whatever happened to young Mr Major. And could he be persuaded to put his weight behind a campaign to save the historic name of St Pancras?
