A row of hire bikes on Haverstock Hill
• I APPLAUD what appears to be an unannounced initiative by the London Borough of Camden to provide and encourage the use of “hire bicycles” on highways and footways (maintainable at public expense).
Your readers may wish to be made aware, however, that if they become involved in an accident arising directly or indirectly as a result of properly and/or improperly parked bicycles on carriageways and footways (provided and/or supplied by private companies), they may need to take immediate steps to report the incident and/or accident to Camden Council as the highway authority, together with any associated claims, photographs, etc.
Until such time as full contact details of the providers of the service are made readily available to the public at all times, and at convenient locations, I suggest that all reports and claims, etc, for compensation should be made directly to Camden Council because, currently, there is no contact information available for the providers of the bicycles.
