What the market needs…

Ways to help Queen’s Crescent market

• I’M a regular shopper at Queen’s Crescent market and would like to follow up the recent correspondence about the massive alterations currently in progress.

Not only is access to shops and traders currently restricted and almost prevented by road works but the extremely expensive changes that are being made appear to be irrelevant and unhelpful.

Pretty as decorative kerbs and new planting (or whatever else is planned) might be, this isn’t what the street needs.

The gigantic amount of money being spent by Camden on these developments could surely have been allocated differently, to make better stalls and outside spaces for traders, to enhance access for deliveries, and to help the small businesses – like the very good new fishmonger – attract more custom.

I hope that the works in progress will achieve what Camden, presumably, is aiming for, new customers and successful local businesses.

But it seems that the finances, as so often, are being misdirected, to the detriment of the people who really matter, the shop owners and market traders.
