What happened in the Uxbridge by-election
Thursday, 3rd August 2023
• ONCE again the local and national Labour parties fail to reveal the whole truth. This time for the real reasons Danny Beales did not get elected in Uxbridge.
First, the local party opposed his selection as candidate. Hardly motivation to get local canvassing help.
Secondly the major challenge to ULEZ imposition was lack of proper consultation.
Uxbridge voters are likely to be aware of the record of Danny Beales for ignoring Camden residents’ views on the vaunted Community Investment Programme.
Letters from residents in Gospel Oak and Haverstock about the broken promises in regard to Bacton Low Rise and West Kentish Town estates are but two recent examples.
Again the damning council report on the failings of the total CIP project might have influenced some. Incidentally the three councillors who produced the report were deselected.
Overall the lesson for the local Labour administration is listen to and respect the views of your voters, otherwise face the consequences.
