What do they think trunk roads were built for?
Thursday, 2nd February 2023
• A 20MPH speed limit on any part of the A41 seemed to me as stupid an idea as is imaginable until I read that Cllr Adam Harrison suggested “transforming busy roads into liveable places”.
Do he and his mates not understand what trunk roads like the Finchley Road were built for? Not for playgrounds, that is for sure.
Cllr Linda Chung is right that crossing points are needed, and these should be provided along with play facilities; but the gridlock, road rage, cost increases and chaos predicted by councillors Gio Spinella and Andrew Parkinson might even ensure a change of party at the next election.
There is another issue which has escaped the scientifically illiterate environmental lobby; fuel consumption. Most petrol / diesel engines (and speedometers) are not designed to run so slowly. In many cases fuel used, and therefore carbon dioxide emitted, will sky rocket.
Get a grip, fellows, or your stupidity will line you up for a spell in opposition.
