What about the nuclear weapons treaty?

Thursday, 28th January 2021

• I WAS sad to find no mention in the January 21 CNJ, let alone celebration, of the UN Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons which came into force on January 22.

It is a major landmark in the step towards ridding the world of these totally unacceptable weapons of indiscriminate mass destruction.

The treaty makes it now illegal for states to develop, manufacture, or deploy nuclear weapons or threaten other states with them.

Many local authorities via the “Mayors for Peace” organisation (originating in Hiroshima) throughout Europe have committed to support the treaty in its entirety.

There will be a move to encourage Camden to join other local authorities in the UK to sign up too.
