Haverstock Hill: due to get new cycle lanes
• IN the letter about the Haverstock Hill segregated cycle path, from leading members of the Camden Cycling Campaign, some benefits are indeed shown, (Cycle lane scheme will bring benefits, October 22).
Any change in the use of the limited space on a highway is going to benefit some and have the opposite effect on others.
No mention is made by the CCC of those who suffer; so it is up to those not in thrall to the cycling campaign to be alert.
It could be that the benefits to cyclists outweigh the disbenefits to others. Others in this case are not just motorists and perhaps businesses – they are relatively easy targets for the CCC.
But what about the great unmentioned? Pedestrians who lose their traffic islands. Bus passengers whose buses take longer, hugely important in the greater scheme of things.
Were they mentioned in the CCC’s letter? Of course not.
