We’ve had another secret visit…

Thursday, 19th August 2021

• ON Monday last week a large group of council officers with two cabinet members came to Gospel Oak.

Neither local councillors nor residents were notified of the visit or its purpose.

Was it to view the Bacton low rise non-building site, scheduled for completion four years ago? Perhaps to visit the shrine of Calvin murdered two years ago?

Perhaps to view the heaps of uncollected fly-tipping or the broken pavements and potholes on Queen’s Crescent so dangerous to people with disabilities?

Perhaps the cabinet members were planning to spend some of the extra £10k allowances they voted themselves in the shops in the crescent whose takings have fallen thanks to the road closure scheme.

They might have wanted to see Carlton school now closed, or the former site, at QCCC, of the food bank so vital to our residents, similarly forced to close.

Certainly they did not want to meet or talk with residents, whom they totally ignored. This is the second such “secret” incursion into our area.

Cllr Jenny Mulholland, who accompanied the earlier one, promised to produce notes of our views. Three weeks later we are still waiting for these.

Perhaps the two cabinet members who took part in this secret visit could explain things. Officers clearly believe they have no obligation to do so.
