We’ve been let down by booze bids

• HOW depressing that a Labour council crumples before a billionaire investor by waving through dozens of alcohol licences with no consultation and apparently no thought for local residents who have to put up with the fall-out, (Fears over 50 new booze licence bids for Camden Town, June 3).

I’m afraid that the sweeping justification by Cllr Meric Apak says more about municipal arrogance and his need for personal profile than any responsive empathy with the needs of the community.

Dublin Castle boss Henry Conlon’s eloquent article (Where will an invasion of 50 bars leave those of us who have battled to survive? May 30) says it all – the hardworking people who made Camden Town a welcoming, responsibly-run destination for music fans have been sold out to trashy headshops, cash-hungry club owners and, now, opportunist developers.
