We’ve been given mixed messages on rubbish collections

Thursday, 15th March 2018

• THE main problem with the “new” rubbish collection is not the two-day rubbish collection which should discourage waste and make us conscious of all the packaging we use, but the inconsistent way in which the collection, when it happens, is applied.

On the Camden Council website we were told not to block the pavements with our bins. But last week, after two weeks of “missed collections”, Veolia told us to leave them on the pavement or they would not be collected.

The other big problem is the environmentally-unfriendly orange bags that the council / Veolia encourage us to use. What they should be making mandatory are biodegradable rubbish bags.

Mine are made by a British company called Symphony Environmental – and they can be made in orange. It defeats the purpose of a recycling policy to be filling oceans, export ships, or landfills with state-sponsored bin bags.
