HISTORY was made on Saturday when organisers involved in the Camden and Regent’s Park Youth League opened up their pitches to the youngest group of players yet.

For the first time since the league was launched 12 years ago teams of six and seven year olds made their way to the Hub to take part in training and friendly matches.

League co-ordinator Will Cave said: “Clubs asked us to introduce training and competitions for younger players and that’s exactly what we’ve done. Just like our Under-8s and Under-9s age groups we won’t be keeping league tables because we want the emphasis to be on fun. I’m really happy to see the young volunteers from the One Housing Youth Project, who have all played in the league, return to take charge of our new venture. They made sure everything ran smoothly.”

Under-8s Friendly Division

ONE of the most thrilling games of the weekend in the Camden and Regent’s Park Youth League saw West End edge The Heath by the odd goal in nine on Saturday. Hot-shot Nico Berczelln (above left) scored a dramatic last-gasp winner to complete his hat-trick and earn West End a pulsating 5-4 victory.

Under-12s Division

HAMPSTEAD kicked off their campaign with a convincing 2-0 win over Highgate Rangers.

A neat passing move led to Tyrone Charles setting-up Max Catto (above right) for the opening goal. Player-of-the-match Charles again turned provider for the second goal, this time laying on the perfect pass for Daniel Farrell.

Goalkeeper Sam Warshaw and captain Marlon McGeachie also caught the eye as Hampstead earned a clean sheet.
