AN élite squad of swimmers from Camden Swiss Cottage went head-to-head against some of the very best competition the country has to offer at the weekend.

The top team travelled to Millfield School in Somerset for the 2014 Amateur Swimming Association South Zonal Meet.

Among the top performers was Isobel Moffatt (pictured), who scooped a silver medal in the 50m butterfly, agonisingly missing the British Championships Qualifying Time by just 0.01 of a second. The 15-year-old also powered home to a fifth-place finish in the 100m butterfly.

Club-mate Indigo Mathews, 14, put in a strong performance in the 200m freestyle, taking a bronze medal in 2.11.79. Showing great versatility, Indigo also took fifth place in the 400m individual medley and sixth spot in the 200m backstroke.

Maddy Hookway, 14, finished just off the podium in fourth place in the 100m breaststroke in a personal best time of 1.17.90. Maddy also sprinted strongly to take fifth place in another impressive new best time in the 50m breaststroke.

Also putting in notable performances were Bryce Puszet, 15, and Andrew Garcia, 14, who both recorded personal best times in their respective 200m and 50m freestyle events.

Reflecting on the successful outing, head coach Tim Hartley said: “I was pleased with the form this early in the season and we had a good number of really strong swims. We’re in a tough training period and all the indicators at this stage are very positive.”
