ARSENE Wenger has said he was "hurt" by questions as to whether or not his current crop of players are good enough to win the club silverware.

The Arsenal manager saw his side revive their slim hopes of winning the Premier League this afternoon (Saturday) with a comfortable 2-0 win over Everton at Goodison Park.

Wenger said afterwards it was an important three points, insisting it wasn't a two-horse race.

“It was a very significant win for us and a big mental test," he said. "We continued the level of performance that we showed against Barcelona in midweek.

"I like this group, I like their mental attitude. It has been questioned and it hurts me. When you work every day with them you see how much effort they put in."

Wenger added: "We are still in the title race in our minds and mathematically, and we want everyone to be behind the team to give us a chance. We are ready for a battle.

“Why should it be a two-horse race with one team three points in front of us? Let's focus on performances and after that we will see how we finish."

The Gunners took the lead against Everton after just seven minutes with a contender for goal-of-the-season. A neat passing move ended with Alexis Sanchez playing in Danny Welbeck, who coolly rounded goalkeeper Joel Robles and slotted home.

On 42 minutes, teenager Alex Iwobi marked his first Premier League start with his first goal for the club after racing onto Hector Bellerin's clever pass behind the Toffees' defence.

ARSENAL: Ospina, Bellerin, Koscielny, Gabriel, Monreal, Coquelin, Elneny, Ozil (Gibbs, 85) Alexis, Iwobi (Chambers, 86), Welbeck (Giroud, 84).
Substitutes not used: Macey, Mertesacker, Walcott, Campbell.
