We will not stand by when politicians seek to harm our Jewish friends and neighbours
Thursday, 1st February 2018
• WE write to express our complete rejection of racism in all its forms, and in particular, in the week following Holocaust Memorial Day, to express our commitment to fighting anti-Semitism.
As active anti-racist campaigners, we were disgusted by Councillor Gio Spinella’s attempt to weaponise opposition to racism, in order to baselessly smear us (Camden is at the forefront of the anti-Semitism battle, January 25).
Such political games undermine the genuine fight against racism which we all commit to, day-in, day-out.
We also write in solidarity with one of our number, our fellow Labour candidate Rebecca Shirazi, who we believe, as Cllr Spinella’s only Jewish opponent in this year’s elections, was singled out in his letter.
This is a shocking and callous act, particularly in a letter that purported to mark Holocaust Memorial Day.
We will not stand by when politicians seek to harm our Jewish friends and neighbours. We therefore urge him to publicly apologise and withdraw his letter.
