We thought Peabody cared about their tenants…

• AFTER reading about the terrible service that council tenants are receiving they are not alone.

Peabody purchased our estate from the Crown Estate in February 2011 and it is now called Cumberland estate. Our repair service has been terrible since 2011. We are very lucky if we get a repair done in one visit.

One of their favourite excuses is “we have to order the part”, which means that it can take weeks, even months, and that’s if they know what they are doing.

The whole estate is neglected, cleaning is non existent, the stairs and lift areas never get swept or washed down. The paint on the walls is all peeling off and some areas are damaged through the damp.

The flooring by the lifts is damaged and dangerous. The grounds aren’t looked after and the gardens are also neglected. Added to which the recycle bins don’t always get emptied.

We pay twice as much rent as the council tenants and, as we are not original Peabody buildings, our rent is more than double the original Peabody estates.

We thought Peabody cared about their tenants. How wrong were we.
