‘Labour have taken an overwhelming majority of the council seats having won just under half of the votes’

• CONGRATULATIONS to all those councillors recently elected under our present “first-past-the-post” voting system.

However the results would have been very different under PR, proportional representation.

The May 5 Camden Council election produced 47 Labour councillors, four Liberal Democrats, three Conservatives and one Green; this was on 48 per cent, 18 per cent, 21 per cent and 13 per cent of the vote respectively.

Labour have taken an overwhelming majority of the council seats having won just under half of the votes.

Under a PR voting system the composition of the council would look more like 26 Labour councillors, 10 Liberal Democrats, 12 Conservatives and seven Greens.

Surely it is time to reform our broken voting system, advocate for PR, and bring fair representation to local government?
