We need action on ‘tagging’
Thursday, 28th March 2019
• RESIDENTS have noticed a marked increase in “tagging” in the north Kentish Town and Dartmouth Park areas.
This is frustrating for any resident with a white wall, disfigured overnight, by ugly markings; worrying for all of us, aware that the youth who climbed to the top tower of Haddo House and stood in the dark on a narrow ledge could have fallen to his death; tragic for the family of the boy who was killed while tagging on a railway line, (Parents’ plea to spray-painters: ‘Don’t risk your lives’, March 7).
The best way to discourage this unsightly and rather threatening habit is to cover it over, as quickly as possible if it is on your property, or to report it to Camden Council via the website https://beta.camden.gov.uk/clean-camden.
There is an app which relays the GPS location and information to the Veolia team so they can deal with it promptly. What a pity that scarce council funds have to be spent in this way.
Perhaps Camden Council can identify more public spaces where young people can come together, with mentoring support, to decorate areas with lively and inspiring graffiti to provide interest and colour.
