Exhaust diesel fumes

‘Camden Council’s negligence and stubborn refusal to tackle diesel emissions’

• I SHARE Mike George’s frustration with Camden Council’s negligence and stubborn refusal to tackle diesel emissions in the borough, with Camden councillor, Adam Harrison’s promise to reduce air pollution in the borough having come to nothing, (‘Green oasis’ promise could turn out to be an empty one, June 27).

Over a year ago I wrote to Cllr Harrison and the council asking for action to be taken against idle lorries causing noise and air pollution in Coram Street, and a letter to this effect was published in the New Journal, (The council will not act on pollution and parking controls, September 20, 2018). All to no avail.

Lorries park and upload deliveries, contrary to government and local guidelines, at any time of day and night and stop in unauthorised areas, for example, the taxi rank.

Though loading restrictions are clearly stated in Coram Street, nothing has been done about those companies that repeatedly deliver out of hours, while the sign by the rank asking for drivers to switch off their engines has been broken for years.

It’s time the government took action against such rogue councils and for the Labour Party replace councillors who fail to act for the populations they supposedly are meant to represent.
