We need a fairer voting system

Thursday, 5th August 2021

• A MORNING with the Make Votes Matter Action Day in Kentish Town Road last Saturday left me with two strong impressions.

First, there is real support now for proportional representation. Voters do want their votes to count, whatever party they support, and even if they’re disenchanted with politics in general.

Secondly, there is a need for much better citizenship education.

The media will always find ways of attacking Labour. This shouldn’t prevent the party from committing to a fair electoral system.

If it doesn’t it is Labour, as the main opposition party, that is choosing to condemn us to further long periods of damaging Conservative government.
