We must conserve energy, it’s plain common sense

• WE all need to wise up about how energy is being wasted in high street premises almost every day.

We should point out where we find shop refrigerators without doors on, make a complaint about shop doors left open so that heat escapes into the street much of the day and where lighting is left on unnecessarily and so on.

Those extraordinary people at Camden Town Unlimited (CTU) arranged for the cluster lights – like Christmas lights – on the top of lamp-posts in the centre of Camden Town to be repaired earlier this year.

These lights have been on 24/7/365 for some years now and some were beginning to fail. However instead of removing the silly lights altogether CTU thought it smart to repair them.

These lights are a complete waste of electricity and money and surely do nothing to make Camden Town centre a better place to shop.

Cleaner streets, chewing gum removed from footpaths, less litter, more bins and decent public toilets, these things would make Camden Town a better place to shop, not silly lights.

We must conserve energy, it’s plain common sense. It would be good were CTU to take the lead on this. Turn off those silly lights and then remove them for good.

And let’s have no Christmas lights at public expense either; people will shop for essentials and Christmas goodies, Christmas lights, CTU silly lights or not.
