• CHAINS and private businesses in our area are not moving with the times, (Family businesses fear for future as Pret A Manger makes move on Hampstead, September 5).

They are either worn out, scruffy, and in some cases with grumpy staff. I won’t mention which ones! We meet our friends in coffee shops and they need to be places with a good experience in every way.

Businesses that have been in the area for many years need to examine why a company like Pret coming to Belsize and South End Green will serve the needs of the community and visitors alike, fresh, well trained staff, and affordable.
