We don’t want Queen’s Crescent market to go the same way as others

Queen's Crescent_wavy lines

‘The squiggly lines all over the street are an insult to people who want to see the council take Queen’s Crescent seriously’

• WHAT Camden Council has done to Queen’s Crescent is an insult to the people who live and work there.

The parklets are OK, but the squiggly lines all over the street infantilises the public realm and are an insult to people who want to see the council take Queen’s Crescent seriously.

Local councillors show no embarrassment at the complete failure of the council to deal with the issues that Queen’s Crescent faces, but tweet about how brilliant they are.

Unfortunately Camden Council’s approach to their markets has been to use them as a tool to support developers such as Labtech.

What has happened in Camden Town is a tragedy. The market was once part of the community, providing local employment and enjoyment.

Over the past 30 years, assisted by Camden Council, it has been turned into a global tourist destination to the detriment of the community. It is now a hostile environment that has to be endured.

Inverness Street market is another casualty of over-commercialisation. Those of us who live in Gospel Oak do not want to see Queen’s Crescent market go the same way.
