We call on the government to reject the appointment of Tzipi Hotovely
Thursday, 30th July 2020
• A NEW Israeli ambassador to the United Kingdom has just been appointed.
Tzipi Hotovely is currently minister for settlement affairs in Benjamin Netanyahu’s government.
She referred to Israeli human-rights activists as “war criminals”.
She stated that the Israeli occupation of the Palestinian territories, regarded as illegal by the British government, is “a myth”.
In her government role she directly supports illegal settlement activities.
She claims that Biblical texts authorise Israel to claim sovereignty over the whole land from the Mediterranean to the River Jordan, thereby opposing the “two-state solution” advocated by the UK and by many other countries.
She supports Lehava, an Israeli far-right organisation that opposes personal relationships between Jews and non-Jews.
Lehava have been denounced by Reuven Rivlin, president of the state of Israel, as “rodents gnawing under the shared democratic and Jewish foundation of Israel”.
A petition to ask the British government to reject Ms Hotovely’s appointment, launched by Jewish anti-occupation group Na’amod, has already attracted signatures from more than 1,800 Jews (bit.ly/Reject-Hotovely).
The Netanyahu government is planning to annex Palestinian territories, ignoring the pleas of the UK government and Opposition, of the United Nations, the European Union, and many other governments all over the world.
It continues its apartheid policies both in Israel itself and in the territories it occupies.
We call on the British government to reject Ms Hotovely’s appointment.
