• AS Liberal Democrat candidates in the upcoming local elections we, like so many others, are watching the invasion of Ukraine by Vladimir Putin’s forces in pain and horror.

For all those undersigned were once refugees, or are the children or grandchildren of refugees who fled conflict and persecution around the world and were welcomed by this country in previous years.

We call on the Conservative government to honour our proud history and do everything possible to provide sanctuary for those leaving Ukraine in fear.

We are also watching with a feeling of helplessness. There feels so little we can do.
